It depends on the target and the ground. For nuggets and small objects near the surface, a VLF or pulse-induction detector is the right tool. For larger, deeper targets, look at the long-range and 3D ground-imaging categories. Depth is how deep the manufacturer says the device can detect a target; range is how far ahead a long-range system can pick up a signal. Both are maximum values for large targets in favourable ground. Real results depend on the size of the target, soil mineralisation and the operator’s experience.
